| His origins are unknown but he may be the horse advertised as the "fine Barb" stallion Grand Cairo sold during the dispersal of the stud of the late Thomas Hall in 1726. In 1732 Mr Crofts "Ægyptian Horse" was advertised to cover at Witton Castle, near Bishop-Auckland in Durham, for a fee of 1 guinea, being described as a strong, well-shaped stallion.
Sire of grandam of top class racehorse Hero - King's Plates York, Lincoln and Newmarket [1759], King's Plates Newmarket and The Curragh (twice) [1760] and King's Plate The Curragh [1761,1762, 1763, 1764 and 1766]; and of an unnamed mare which is ancestress of The Duchess (1816 St Leger)
